the
indo-caribbean   collection

Creating a special collection located in the center of New York's thriving Indo-Caribbean community in Richmond Hill is intended to give residents easy access to their rich and diverse history, culture and experiences for the first time.
Browse Literature & Media Collection

Why is the collection important?

In our extensive field research and data collection exercise during U.S. Census 2010, we found many Indo-Caribbean residents in South Queens lacked a common ethnic identity, many did not have factual information about their roots and some residents requested materials they could use to shape their Indo-Caribbean/Asian American identity.  These factors have hindered the community politically and socially.  This collection is intended to be a resource at the finger tips of residents in shaping their identity and empowering our community.
